Wild Wine Tasting
04/07/2010 - By Fort Lauderdale, FL

Wild Wine Tasting

About 75 people were in attendance April 7th at the Grateful Palate in Fort Lauderdale for the launch benefit of The Wild Society.

The Wild Societyis a new group of young professionals formed to support The SPCA Wildlife Care Center, a Fort Lauderdale wildlife rehabilitation center operated by The Humane Society of the United States. While tasting a variety of wine and hors d’ouevres, participants learned about event, volunteer, and fundraising activities for The Wild Society.

Perry Burk, chairman of The Wild Society, wants to raise awareness about the good work of the center and draw more volunteers and donors to the Fort Lauderdale wildlife rehabilitation center.

Burk aims to recruit local businesspeople, ages 22 to 45, to do volunteer and philanthropic work for the center, which has served the South Florida Tri-County Region since 1969.

“We are excited to be launching The Wild Society, a new group of energetic, sophisticated young professionals interested in supporting the mission of the Wildlife Care Center,” said Sherry Schlueter, the center’s executive director. “My own involvement with this vital organization began in my youth; my enthusiasm for its good work and noble cause has only grown. The Wild Society will bring us new members, donors, volunteers and a pool of future leaders to guide us in the years to come.”

The SPCA Wildlife Care Center’s mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release native wildlife that has been harmed or displaced; to treat and place certain needy domestic, exotic and farm animals; and to educate the public toward the co-existence with all animals.
