Red Cross South County Gala
03/13/2010 - By Boca Raton, FL

Red Cross South County Gala

The essence of Polynesia came alive at the Boca Raton Resort & Club on March 13 for the 27th Annual Red Cross South County Gala, themed “Luau at Sunset.”

More than 200 guests were greeted with gorgeous, fresh flower leis and tropical Mai Tais before entering the elegant reception to benefit the South County Service Center of the American Red Cross Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter. The evening honored NCCI Holdings, Inc., a long-standing supporter of the nonprofit organization and a cornerstone in the Palm Beach County philanthropic community for nearly 25 years.

Following a silent auction and cocktail reception, graciously donated by Lee Steinberg, a conch shell horn summoned guests to the Great Hall for dinner, dancing and music by CTO High Voltage. The Moeata Luau kicked off the entertainment in their inimitable style with authentic, Polynesian dance performances.

This year’s generous contributors, corporate and media sponsors, and distinguished guests advance the local Red Cross chapter’s nearly 100-year history of providing shelter, food and counsel to victims of disasters, teaching lifesaving skills such as CPR and First Aid, and supporting military members and their families. Major sponsors included Per and Asa Loof; Madelyn Savarick; Lee Steinberg; NCCI Holdings, Inc.; Pam and Mark Begelman; Republic National Distributing Company; Sally and Robert Painter; Merrill Lynch-Boca Tropics Complex; Debra and Hein Onkenhout; Best Restorations, Inc.; Cory 1st Home Choice Delivery; JKG Group; Boca Raton Magazine; Sun Sentinel; and Sunny 104.3 FM.

The dinner-dance supported the local Red Cross chapter’s lifesaving programs and services through an impressive silent auction. Some of the coveted items up for bid included a year membership to the Seagate Beach Club; a four-day, three-night stay at the Private “Creole Cottage” at Swanson Winery in Napa Valley; two premium tickets to a Jimmy Buffet concert in Tampa; and a case of Cakebread Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 27th Annual South County Gala committee members included Sandra and Daniel Alberttis; Pam and Mark Begelman; Suzanne Bower; Andrea Corsi; Dean and Nina Dimke; Per-Olof and Asa-Lena Loof; Bonnie Mason; Clare Moloney; Barbara McCormick; Debra and Hein Onkenhout; Sally and Robert Painter; Madelyn Savarick; Marti and Tom White; and Tom Wood.

In addition to the committee members, notable guests included Yvonne Boice; Steve Klingel, NCCI president and CEO; Alfredo Guerra, NCCI CFO; Cheryl Budd, NCCI Chief Communications Officer; Marilyn and Mark Swillinger; Phil Renaud; Betsy Fletcher; Skip Jackson; Joyce and Tom DiVita; Joe Cory; and Marin and Vanessa Dragojevic.
