02/07/2009 - By The Mar-a-Lago Club, Palm Beach, FL

Lupus Foundation of America's Annual Butterfly Ball

The Lupus Foundation of America, Southeast Florida Chapter held their annual Butterfly Ball on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at The Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach.

The gala, entitled the Black and White Disco Ball, raised approximately $268,000 through ticket sales, a silent auction, raffle sales and sponsorships.

"Thank you so much to everyone who made this evening possible. We are so lucky to have so many wonderful supporters in these times," said Stacie Weisman, Butterfly Ball Chair.

The evening began with a poolside cocktail reception. Disco diva Jackie Moore made her grand appearance down the steps leading to the pool area and entertained guests with her hit songs including This Time Baby. Following cocktails, guests entered the Grand Ballroom adorned in disco silver, black and white and strolled through the extravagant silent auction that had been staged by Auction Co-Chairs Stephanie Kahlert and Judy Preefer. The Stephen Chase Band entertained the guests while they dined.

Disco dancers and a John Travolta look-a-like performed followed by performances from disco legends France Joli (Come To Me) and Maxine Nightingale (Right Back Where We Started From).

Florida Senate President Jeff Atwater and Tamara Mellon, President and Founder, Jimmy Choo were Honorary Co-Chairs. Committee members included: Mary Badder, Hal Benson, Anne Bright, Missy Corey, Amy Crompton, Kathleen Daley, Christine Davies, Candace Friis, Linda Gazie, Dawn Guzzetta, Jan Handley, Marie Horenburger, former Miami Dolphin great O.J. McDuffie, Liza McKee, Diane Metcalf, Susan Mishkin, Lisa Morgan and Kim Rothstein.

Presenting sponsors were Southern Wine and Spirits, Champagne Lanson, Foster's Wine Estates, Ginger Spirits and V Georgio Spirits. Gold Sponsors were Daphne Seybolt Culpeper Foundation, Trish Kahlert, Helmut Kiener, Harriet and William Martin, Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler and Lorraine Thomas.

Proceeds from the ball directly benefit the Lupus Foundation of America, Southeast Florida Chapter, Inc.
