Boys & Girls Harbor Salute to Achievement

Boys & Girls Harbor Salute to Achievement

Over two million dollars was raised to celebrate the Harbor’s 73rd year and the 40th anniversary of the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts on June 14, 2010.

More than 400 people were on hand to honor Marcia L. Goldstein (Chair of Business Finance and Restructuring at Weil Gotshal & Manges) and Arturo O’Farrill (pianist, composer, educator and GRAMMY-Winning Musical Director) – recipients of the Tony Duke Founder’s Award. Our Mistress of Ceremonies was Lynda Baquero (Emmy Award-Winning NBC Correspondent).

Both Ms. Goldstein and Mr. O’Farrill praised Boys & Girls Harbor and the Conservatory for the Performing Arts for providing education, character development and cultural enrichment for nearly 2,000 children coming from East Harlem, Harlem and the South Bronx each year.

Guests were delighted by a special treat – music and dance performances by some students of the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts. For the finale, the Harbor’s wonderfully talented young people were joined by Nikki Renee Daniels (Promises, Promises), Rhett George (Memphis) and Mandy Gonzalez (Wicked).

Boys & Girls Harbor was founded by Tony Duke in 1937. Its mission is to empower children and their families to become full, productive participants in society through education, cultural enrichment and social services.
